We took the boys to the Kid's Build-it Clinic, where they made school bus pencil holders. Since we do not allow the boys to freely have pencils (or pens or crayons), they store matchbox cars, silly bandz, and an occasional goldfish cracker in their pencil holders.
Benjamin and Ethan were so excited -- they love to make things. And, even more exciting to them is getting to use a hammer to "bam" things!
